Oklahoma Governor Wishes Insurance For Children
Children will soon be covered by insurance per Governor Mary Fallin of Oklahoma. Fallin hopes that insurance companies will be able to consider providing insurance coverage for children between the ages of 1 and 19.
Last Monday, Fallin signed into effect a new rule called Child Only Rule where she hopes that insurance companies will also offer coverage for children. Such a rule has proved a great victory for the insurance commission as it will significantly help parents and guardians, especially those who do not have any coverage via their employment, Sooner Care or other means.
The signing of the new rule is in connection with the Federal Health Care Law which was been implemented since last March. Such law said that several insurance companies in Oklahoma were to stop giving coverage to children 19 years old and below. The Federal Health Care Law required the companies to foot the cost of any pre-existing conditions in children under these policies.
However, even if Governor Fallin has signed into effect a rule on child insurance, insurance companies are still not required to offer the coverage as they have the option not to include children in their policies. Moreover, while some insurance companies may choose to offer coverage for children, newborn children are still not included.
