Edmond Convention & Visitors Bureau Starts Tourism Ambassador Program

March 1, 2012

For tourists visiting Edmond and the surrounding OKC metro areas, their experience will soon be even more well-organized and accommodating than before, thanks to the Edmond Convention & Visitors Bureau’s new certified Tourism Ambassadors Program. The tourism program will inspire and educate hospitality employees in providing tourists and visitors with a great experience.

The Edmond Convention & Visitors Bureau is joining a regional effort to enhance tourism in Oklahoma.  Any time a person visits a new area, they have a lot of questions, and it is usually the frontline hospitality employees with whom they have the most contact.  The certified Tourism Ambassadors Program will teach different frontline employees in restaurants, hotels, retail stores, and transportation how to interact with and accommodate visitors, as well as help them find answers to their questions.

According to Cathy Williams-White, Director of Edmond Convention & Visitors Bureau, the program will help hospitality employees learn more about the immediate and greater metropolitan areas of the state and how they will be able to suggest serve the visitors well.  Once they are certified, frontline employees will be able to confidently events, which restaurants to dine at, and even different routes to reach destinations.

The certified Tourism Ambassadors Program will be facilitated by Francis Tuttle Technology Center once per month or every other month. The visitors bureau aims to start the program by September or October of this year, and Mickey Schaefer of Mickey Schaefer and Associates, the creator of the program, will teach participants during the program.  The cost will be $50 or less for each individual who wants to participate.
