Decorating with Room Divider Screens

June 7, 2012

Clearly defining different living spaces within a large open space can sometimes be a challenge.  However, it isn’t necessary to build walls in order to delineate spaces. All you need are portable, easy-to-install room dividers that can add style to your interior design and be removed later if you decide you want a change.

Room divider screens offer both function and beauty to your home.  If you want a subtle division, you can opt for a basic divider, but if you want to use the screens as design elements within your rooms, there are many options to help you achieve that.  Panels come in a variety of designs, materials, and construction, providing options that suit every taste.

To give you some inspiration for how you can utilize decorative divider screens in your home, here are a few ideas:

  • Use distressed room dividers for your garden. Create a private backyard garden by installing a portable diver made of distressed wood. Paint them in the same rustic tone or choose a brighter color for a novel look  Decorate the panels with vertical gardens and  hanging flowers to add to the overall design.
  • Create a more functional room divider by installing extra display or storage space.  This will give you with the benefits of a built-in to feature art, photos, books, and collections.
  • Add an artistic and personal touch to your screen divider by placing art and photos directly onto it. You can either clip them onto wires strung across the screen or blend them in by stitching them to an upholstered panel.  You can create a fun collage of photos or feature only one or two large pieces for a more dramatic look.
  • Hang paper blinds as divider screens to make it easier to open up or close the space as needed.
  • Use your dividers to cover unsightly views or damaged sections of the walls or flooring.
  • Split up your divider screen for a grand entry. Instead of using one divider screen in the middle or the room boundary, use two screens on either side to create a grand entrance and illusion of a doorway.  Place identical chairs next to them to further create visual interest and add symmetry to the space.
