Tips for Keeping Your Patio Furniture Looking New

Keeping your patio furniture looking new is important, especially if you like to have outdoor barbecue parties or dine outdoors during the summer months.  By properly maintaining and caring for your furniture, you can keep it in clean, excellent condition, regardless of how frequently you use it.

To help you keep your patio furniture looking new, here are some useful tips:

  • Cover your wood furniture when you are not using it or if the weather becomes very humid.  Wood is susceptible to easy wear and tear if it is exposed to dirt, too much sunlight, and moisture.  Use a waterproof cover for added protection, but make sure it is breathable and allows air to circulate in and out, so it does not trap moisture inside.
  • Clean your patio furniture.  When you clean your house each day, try to spend a few extra minutes dusting the dirt off your furniture and wiping it dry.  Clean furniture is less prone to damage because it has no harmful elements attached to it.
  • Use appropriate cleaning agents for your furniture. Not all furniture materials require the same maintenance and care procedures.  Certain cleaning agents may be ideal for one type of furniture, but may be harmful to another.  Learn what kind of cleaning agents to use on your furniture, so you can make sure you get it as clean as possible without causing harm.
  • Store your cushions inside. It’s best not to leave them outside at night or when it is raining.  Also, wash them from time to time and follow the washing instructions on the tag.
  • Keep your furniture intact. Loose screws and nails will lead to wobbling and ultimately wear down your chairs and tables. So, check your furniture from time to time and make any necessary repairs as soon as possible.
  • Repaint your furniture every few years.  When paint begins to chip, it creates a mess, and your furniture becomes unsightly.  When paint begins to chip, schedule a time to repaint your furniture and be sure to do it on a sunny day, so it can easily dry afterward.
