Wearing your seatbelt helps to protect you against injuries during car accidents. There are many road collisions that have resulted in injuries and death due to drivers and passengers not wearing their seatbelts. For that reason, it is important for drivers, front and back passengers, and especially children to buckle up every time they get in a car.

To help remind people on the road to buckle up, eight states along the famous Route 66 will be taking part in a quarterly seatbelt implementation program. The effort started in 2010 when several law enforcers from Central Oklahoma checked on every vehicle on the road to remind them to use their seatbelts. Now, law enforcers from Oklahoma, California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Missouri, Kansas, and Illinois will be participating in 2013’s first “Get Your ‘Clicks’ on Route 66″ on Friday. The crackdown will run for 24 hours, and police officers are hoping to encounter even more people than the 375 they did last year.
