Going Green Inside Your Bathroom

A beautiful bathroom makes attending to your daily personal needs a more comfortable experience. But, knowing that your bathroom also helps clean the environment makes it even more worthwhile.

Eco-friendly bathrooms are easy to achieve these days if you have the right resources and tools. In addition, you can also modify your bathroom activities to reduce their negative effects on the environment. Here are a few ideas for how you can go green inside your bathroom:

  • Use a low-flow toilet. One of the things that wastes the most water inside your house is the toilet. Each time you flush the toilet, gallons of water are flushed down the drain. Most of the time, you don’t need that much water to keep your toilet clean. Use a low-flow toilet to reduce the amount of water that is used each time you flush.
  • Paint your bathroom with low VOC paint. Low VOC paint helps maintain a cleaner air quality in your home, and in a less spacious place like a bathroom, it is important to have proper ventilation and clean air for our health. Using low VOC paint will help reduce the harmful elements released into the air by your paint.
  • Use low-flow faucets and showerheads. Even if you try to hurry and reduce the length of your shower, a lot of excess water still flows down the drain due to the high flow of showerheads and faucets that are commonly in bathrooms. Switch to a low-flow showerhead and taps, so less water is wasted when you bath, brush your teeth, wash your hands, etc.
  • Switch to organic fabrics. What you use inside your bathroom also makes or breaks an eco-friendly place. Try to complete your goal in transforming your bath into something environmentally-friendly with organic fabrics. Use curtains made of organic cotton or bamboo. There are also organic options for bathroom necessities like towels, trashcans, and mats.
  • Decorate with what nature has to offer. Try adding some plants inside your bathroom to literally create a greener look. You may also choose to use other natural materials like wood when redecorating your bath. And, why not use natural light and air to improve the  ventilation inside your bathroom?
  • Use refillable bottles. Instead of constantly buying new bottles for hand soap and shower gel, use refillable bottles. In addition, try to reuse other things in your bathroom as well rather than instantly throwing them away.
