Oklahoma Governor Fallin Signs Smoking Ban Bill

Smoking puts many lives at risk. Not only are there severe health consequences for people who smoke, but they also put innocent people at risk due to second-hand smoking.  That is why Oklahoma officials have decided to work to minimize the effects of smoking, especially in places where they have the control to do something.

Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin just signed Senate Bill 501, which states that cities and towns have the legal authority to prohibit the use of tobacco within public places. Smoking will be banned in public properties such as sports complexes, playgrounds, and parks, as well as government-owned properties.

The new law will take effect on November 1, and it will make the smoking ban permanent, whereas the executive order from 2012 was only permanent.
