New Recycling Program Begins in Edmond

Recycling continues to become and increasingly popular trend.  To help do their part to protect the environment, people separate their waste into two groups: items that are trash and items that can be recycled, repurposed, or reused again. In Edmond, the city provides curbside pick up for recycled items, and the Solid Wastes Department is in charge of finding ways to continually improve that service.

To help address the growing demand for recycling, the City of Edmond is planning to launch a new recycling program for residents. The existing program utilizes an 18-gallon bin for collecting recyclables, with certain restrictions on what materials are acceptable and not. With the new program, residents will be receiving bigger carts and updated, expanded guidelines.

During the month of June, participating residents will be receiving a 96-gallon capacity recycling cart with a lid and wheels. This will make it easier for residents to move their cart from their homes to the curb. In addition to the bigger carts, the program will now be accepting more materials, including cardboard.

Participants of the new recycling program will also receive a reminder calendar that will help them know their scheduled pickup dates and other important information. The first pickup date will start on July 1, and residents will need to place their carts at the curb by 7:00 a.m. on their pickup dates.
