Oklahoma River Illuminated as Part of MAPS 3 Improvement Project

The City of Oklahoma is planning and implementing different solutions for ways to improve the quality of life within the city through the MAPS 3 program.  The projects are developed with the primary goal of providing convenience or improvements to the city. The Oklahoma River racecourse is part of the MAPS 3 program and will be opening soon.

Several enhancements are planned for the MAPS 3 Oklahoma River Improvements project. The main part of the program is the illumination of the racecourse during the second annual SandRidge Energy Stars and Stripes River Festival, which will be the world’s first permanently lit racecourse. The first 500 meters of the racecourse will include lighting and windscreens, allowing not only Olympic athletes to enjoy the river more, but families and community groups as well.

Aside from the lighted racecourse, other projects for the river include a starting system, a judging platform, irrigation, cable crossover markers, starting tower, and starting docks. There will also be LED lighting, cameras, parking, and a whitewater rafting facility for beginners and expert kayakers.

The SandRidge Energy Stars and Stripes River Festival will be on June 29, 2013. The racecourse lighting ceremony will take place at 8:45 pm and will be open to the public.
