Maintaining the Gleam of Your Hardwood Floors

Hardwood floors can tend to be an iconic feature of a home. They are classy, sophisticated and give a gleam to the entire room. With appropriate care, you can ensure that your wood floors will last long. You should know what type of finish you have to ensure that you are making a worth-while investment. Hardwood floors may be a wax finish or a Polyurethane covering. You also need to know what your floor is made of so you can utilize the proper cleaning solution and polishers.

After investing so much time and money to acquire the elegant floor you are so proud of, you must make sure they are properly maintained. The care and maintenance of hardwood floors will preserve them as they age. If you do not pay attention to your floor, it will lose its finish and shine overtime. Appropriate cleaning of hardwood floors will increase the longevity of your property. They may be quite expensive, but considering the durability of wood, it could be a bullet-proof investment for your home.

Here are some tips on how to keep the gleam of your hardwood floors:

  1. Regularly clean your floor. Sweep and mop the floor surface at least twice a week.
  2. Avoid acid, electrical burns and extensive staining. Do not place candles on the floor surface.
  3. Keep the floor dry. Wipe wet spots immediately. Do not leave spilled liquids unattended. Too much moisture can deteriorate the wood. When wiping the wet section, use a dry mop or rag.
  4. The color of wood can be altered when exposed to extreme sunlight and ultraviolet rays. Protect your floor by covering your windows with curtains.
  5. Put on bristle type mats at door entries because they help in collecting bigger pieces of gravel and debris that scratch your hardwood floor.
  6. Use protectors underneath any furniture on the floor’s surface to avoid damaging the quality of the hardwood floors.
  7. Do not drag heavy appliances across the floor. Carry or wheel them if possible.
