Edmond Tree Board and Edmond Electric Receive Special Recognition

In Edmond, there are programs implemented to grow andmaintain trees in public places. More volunteers are joining theprogram in planting trees within parks, complexes and other public areas within the city.

Because of the efforts of the city on this environmental front, the Tree Line USA program recognizes the city of Edmond as a Tree City USA community. In the same line, Edmond Electric also earned special recognition as a Tree Line USA utility in Oklahoma. Tree Line USA recognizes 21 cities, 5 public utilities, 2 Air Force bases and 7 university campuses.

The Tree City USA is a special award provided to cities that implement best practices in tree care.  These cities carry the five core standards of quality tree care, which are tree planting and public education programs, sponsorship or partnership in an annual Arbor Day event, annual worker training and formal tree-based energy conservation program. To earn this recognition, a city must have a tree ordinance, establish a tree board, spend at least $2 per capita each year for forestry programs and celebrate a citywide Arbor Day.

The City of Edmond has been in the Tree City USA program for 15 years. Edmond Electric is also enjoying the recognition of a Tree Line USA utility for 14 years.
