Oklahoma City Police Department to Increase Hiring Set

The presence of police officers in a community helps in maintaining peace and order. They provide protection to residents and keep criminals from causing harm.

In Oklahoma City, more police officers are needed to improve safety among the residents and to further promote public order. Additional officers would provide greater protection, both day and night and can patrol a wider scope of the city’s vicinity.

Oklahoma City Manager Jim Couch is working on a plan to increase hiring of police officers in the city. Working with Ward 3 Councilman Larry McAtee, Couch said that the proposal would take place in the 2014-15 fiscal year.

According to Couch, the city needs more police officers and currently, they are nearly 300 officers short of their goal. The proposal would increase hiring of officers to the OKCPD.

This proposal would require an additional budget for the hiring, including 20 police positions plus 21 uniform officers. More budget hearings are set to be held within this month and next month.
