Bathroom Remodeling Ideas

Bathrooms are one of the areas in the house that receive the most use and traffic. Although their primary design is functional, there is no reason they can’t be visually appealing and have style. If you want to update the design of your bathroom space, here are a few ideas:

  1. Rethink your storage space. For easy access to towels and toiletries, cabinetry must be functional and able to accommodate items of various sizes. Closed cabinetry will keep the area looking clean; however, you can also store toiletries in bins on open shelving, which helps to maximize those areas, while still achieving a clean, unified look.
  2. Adjust your vanity. Mirrors are important for many daily activities, such as fixing your hair, applying makeup, brushing your teeth, etc. So, make sure that they are placed at an appropriate comfort level. If you have kids in your home who are not tall enough to reach the mirror,  consider installing a built-in pullout step for them.
  3. Install proper lighting. Consult with a contractor regarding the type of lighting that would best suit the size of your bathroom. If you only install recessed lighting in your bathroom, there will be a lot of shadows, which can make it difficult to see yourself in the mirror, so be sure to use more direct lighting in your bathroom.
  4. Add a bathroom heater. It may sound unnecessary at first, but the truth is that bathroom heaters make the room so much more comfortable when you are getting out of the shower or getting ready on chilly winter mornings.
  5. Ensure good ventilation. This is very important given the fact that so much moisture is generated in the bathroom. The primary function of good ventilation is to prevent condensation and mold growth. It also prevents the mirror from fogging up while you’re trying to use it. You can install a window or a fan to allow for air circulation

Before you start renovating your bathroom, be sure to plan it well because it can be costly to go back and redo things. Unless you are confident in your carpentry and plumbing skills, it is best to enlist the help of a professional, so everything is installed properly and you won’t have to worry about structural problems later.
