Free Fishing Classes Open for OKC Children

One of the most anticipated family activities of the summer season is fishing. Parents and grandparents will love taking their kids fishing. It will be a great bonding activity that everyone will remember for summers to come.

To assist the little ones cast their own lines, the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation and City of Oklahoma City’s Municipal Fishery is hosting free fishing classes specifically designed for the children of Oklahoma City. “Hooked on Fishing”is a free fishing class held every Saturdays of June, July and August. It will be a two-hour session where participants learn the basics of fishing.

Kids from ages 5 to 15 years old are all welcome to join. Each class will be held from 8 to 10am at various locations. Classes on June 7, July 12 and August 9 will be held at South Lakes Fishing Pond East. Classes on June 14, July 19 and August 16 will be held at Metro tech Springlake. Classes on June 21, July 26 and August 23 will be held at Edwards Park Lake.

The kids will be learning skills like casting lines and knot-tying. They will also learn how to identify fish as well as regulations and fishing etiquette in angling.

Participants will need to reserve their slots first and must be accompanied by adults during their class.
