Rattan Furniture

Rattan, also known as cane, is one of the most highly durable materials in the world. It is native to Asian countries, where it is harvested and treated with chemicals to prepare it for use. Rattan is highly adaptable, so it is a popular material choice for many different types of products.

After cane is harvested, it is placed in an area with very high temperatures. The heat softens the cane, allowing it to be molded into different shapes and sizes by cutting and shaping machines. After being processed, it is then ready to be used for furniture. It can be woven into furniture or serve as the base of an entire piece. Weaving ratttan is a great furniture making technique that is achieved by overlapping canes in interlocking positions to create a sturdy surface.

Because rattan is such a versatile material, it makes building new  furniture an easy task. Rattan can be used to create patterns in furniture and is also great for constructing uniquely shaped sofas and armchairs. There is also synthetic rattan, which is an imitation product made of plastic. It still contains the same durable qualities as natural rattan, but requires less maintenance.
