Helpful Tips for Kitchen Lighting

Good lighting in your kitchen is important because it helps you prepare and eat your food, as well as have a good place to socialize with friends and family. It is not only functional, however. It adds to the beauty of your design as well.

Depending on how big or small your kitchen is, kitchen fixtures can vary in many ways. There are large, ornate designs to create a sense of grandeur in large spaces, as well as minimalist designs to fit small spaces.

To help you when it comes to choosing your kitchen lighting, here are a few tips:

  • Use multiple lighting sources versus just one very bright light. This will prevent glare and help you see better. Adding more subtle lighting can achieve the same level of brightness, but in a less stark, more pleasant way.
  • Consider upgraded designs. This applies to both aesthetic and functional elements. There are so many ways that lighting has improved over the years, so take the time to really explore your options.
  • Choose a fixture that complements your kitchen. Make sure that what you install is something that conforms to the overall look of your kitchen. The kitchen is one of the most frequented rooms in a house, so you want it to look great.
  • Know where to put your lighting. If you haven’t installed your lighting yet, stop and plan first. Know what areas of your kitchen need the most lighting and focus there. For instance, cooktops, counters, sinks, and walkways are some of the areas that need to be brighter, so consider installing lights overhead or near them.
  • Think efficiency. Be practical when it comes to your kitchen lighting, as it pertains to energy usage and utility bills. Keep in mind that you will be using your kitchen every day, so your lights will be on a large portion of the time. Choose bulbs and fixtures that are energy-efficient and practical.
