Home Cooling Alternatives to Air Conditioning

Summer is just around the corner, and you can feel the sun heating up everywhere you go. When you’re in the middle of winter, you long for the warm weather, but once you’re in the middle of it, you are reminded of how hot and excruciating it can get. There are some days when it’s so hot that all you want to do is to stay inside and turn your air conditioning on high.

But, what if you don’t have a strong air conditioning system? Here are some practical alternatives to air conditioning that can help you cool your home:

  • Use electric fans. These can give you the air flow you need to feel cool at home. A ceiling fan is ideal to circulate the air all around the room. You can also use a stand fan for additional breeze, which allows you to take it from room to room as needed.
  • Open your windows. If it is windy outside, let the air come into your home and cool the space down. Open multiple windows and doors, so the air can circulate well and drive out the hot air inside.
  • Take a dip in the pool. If you have a pool in your backyard, use it! The water will cool you down immediately and refresh you. If you don’t have your own pool, visit your community pool. You might even make some new friends while you’re there.
  • Drink something icy. It will chill your body from the inside and help you cool down.
  • Close the curtains where the sun is directly shining through. Sunlight will naturally warm up your home, so close your curtains during the hottest parts of the day to help insulate your house from the heat.
  • Avoid cooking too much inside. Using your oven and stove will only cause the temperature to rise and thus heat up the place. If possible, do your cooking outside on the grill.
  • Create your own DIY air conditioner. Put some ice in a bowl and place the bowl in front of your fan. It will blow cold air into the room as the air passes through the ice.
