Choosing the Right Faucet for Your Kitchen

A functional faucet in the kitchen can help make food prep and washing dishes a breeze. It is easier and faster to wash fruits and veggies or clean dishes and the sink itself  if you have a good faucet on standby. But, what if your faucet starts to show signs of damage or old age, and you need to buy a new one?

Purchasing a new faucet for your kitchen is something you should research before you buy. Your faucet is not only something that you use everyday, but it can also be a design element in your kitchen. So, to help you find the perfect faucet, here are a few helpful guidelines:

  • Know your needs. How will you use your kitchen faucet? Will you be using it every time you wash your dishes? Or, will you simply use it for washing your hands? Depending on your needs, you can choose from different sizes and kinds of faucets like a double sink with drainer or a hose top for spraying.
  • Choose quality. You want something that will stand the test of time, not have to be replaced in a couple of years. When you choose a faucet, think quality and long term. Evaluate the materials and research reviews to determine if the brand has positive, quality performance.
  • Be realistic with pricing. Just because a kitchen faucet is the most expensive doesn’t mean it’s the best. Likewise, low priced faucets aren’t always low quality. Be reasonable when it comes to pricing. Do your research. If you need to spend more for the sake of quality, it may be worth it, but don’t break your budget because there are many good quality faucets out there.
  • Select a great design. Remember, your faucet can be one of the centerpieces of your kitchen. Consider the kind of design your faucet has – does it go with your design theme? There are so many options available these days that you don’t have to settle when it comes to aesthetics.
  • Consider the handle. Is it comfortable and easy to use? Is it too slippery, big, or small to grip? Check out the handle and try it out to ensure you are comfortable with it.
  • Take installation and repair into consideration. Will you be doing the installation and repairs? Will it fit in your sink? Consider the ease of installing your faucet and how simple or difficult it will be to do repairs when necessary. If it’s out of your realm of ability, keep in mind that there will be costs associated with hiring a plumber if anything ever goes wrong.

Choose the right height. Consider how tall your faucet is in relation to your sink. Choose the right size so it will be hygienic and comfortable for you and your family.
