Oklahoma City Fire Department Hosts 5k Run to Raise Funds

September 8, 2016

House fires are something that take thousands of families’ homes every year, but there are certain steps we can do to help prevent them. One of the simplest and most common preventative measure we can take is to install smoke detectors. When you have smoke detectors at home, you can instantly be aware of fires or potential fire threats when the alarms go off.

The Oklahoma City Fire Department is installing smoke alarms in homes for free in hope of reducing the number of house fires that occur. To raise funds for the campaign, the fire department will be hosting its Project Life 5k Run this weekend. The 5k run will not only be a fun time, but it will also help raise a significant amount of funds for the initiative.

The run is set for Saturday, September 10, at Regatta Park, 701 S Lincoln Blvd. The 1-mile run will start at 8:00am, and the 5k run will commence at 8:30 am. Part of the 5k run route will be along the scenic Oklahoma River.

Those who want to join can register on Thursday at Academy Sports on the Northwest Expressway from 2:00-6:00pm and Friday at Academy Sports on S Walker from 2:00-6:00pm.  Top finishers will receive awards and medals.
