Solar-Powered Charging Stations Now Available at Oklahoma City Parks

October 28, 2016

Many people rely on their smartphones for a number of reasons. They keep them connected to people in their personal lives, but are also important to a lot of people when it comes to their work lives as well. Because of that, there are few things more frustrating than when your battery power dies.

Fortunately, there is great news for Oklahoma City residents.  Now, anyone can have easy access to mobile charging stations at parks within Oklahoma City. The Oklahoma City Parks and Recreation Department is installing solar-powered charging stations in select parks in the city. Each charging station will be run using the unlimited power from the sun, so they will be eco-friendly in addition to convenient. Stations will be installed next to park benches, and each station will be able to charge two mobile devices.

Aside from the charging units, each station will also have a sensor collecting local environmental data for park officials to use. Data collected will be used to evaluate further needs and improvements inside the park.

Right now, two Oklahoma City parks have charging stations: Early wine Park and Bicentennial Park. A third charging station will soon be installed at Will Rogers Garden.
